Yasmine Tiana is a passionate yoga instructor who believes in the profound power of yoga to transcend not only the physical but also the mental and emotional barriers that often hold us captive. She graduated from Syracuse University in 2021 #goorange with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Spanish. It was after graduating and working at a local news station for almost a year that she realized how much our current world is unequipped to support our spiritual needs and how media plays a role in perpetuating fear-based programs that activate our sympathetic nervous systems, causing many individuals to live chronically in fear. She was determined to be the change she wanted to see in the media. Before she finished her yoga teacher training abroad in Sicily, Italy she quit her job and started her own media company called Uprooted which specializes in telling the stories of the African diaspora outside of the white gaze, without the fear-based programming that we see in traditional media. Now a certified instructor, her practice is rooted in a deep desire for healing and growth, and she is particularly dedicated to supporting people in nurturing a harmonious relationship with their nervous systems. Gigi (they/she) is an Indigenous/Caribbean expressive artist, space-holder, and teacher. She is a writer, activist, and advocate and
has a background in musical theatre. They are guided by their Piscean heart and their ability to be a clear mirror for others. Her truest loves are play, creation, expression, and connection.
As a first-generation college student, she is boldly breaking cycles of generation trauma through a decolonial mindset. They are a 200 hr-RYT (Awake To My Soul - Cleveland, OH 2023) and in their practice, the focus is always on autonomy and intuitive sequencing. She came to yoga as someone who didn't feel represented; as a curvy, Queer, Boricua she
knew that inclusion was and is everything. Individual liberation is collective liberation.
She is also a certified Reiki practitioner. Reiki was the missing piece in Gigi’s healing journey and she is honored to be able to facilitate healing sessions for others. Reiki is life force energy - it’s breath, it’s alchemy. In group sessions, Gigi sends out energy to the collective and then moves intuitively from person to person. She also offers 1:1 healing sessions. Being part of the Syracuse Yoga Collective is the dopest way Gigi
could imagine being in community.
